As you may be quite well aware, our forums are notorious for ratting out magazines that continuously serve up the same old cover stars. We’d consider Jennifer Lawrence to be a cover subject who regularly greets us at the newsstand, but in defense of the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the actress has surprisingly never been on its front cover before. That all changes this month as the Christian Dior ambassador looks right at home on the title’s recently released May 2016 edition. Photographed by Mario Sorrenti and styled by Alastair McKimm, both the subscriber’s cover (below) and the accompanying cover shoot fall completely flat, leaving us extremely underwhelmed.
Forum members were quick to voice their sheer dismay. Handbag Queen wasn’t even willing to accept another Jennifer cover. “It’s as if there were only five celebrities in this world. Same celebrities month after month. Zzzzzzz!” she commented.
“Whoa, this is simply shocking! You have Sorrenti, and this is what we get? A blurred, out of zoom, too closely cropped cover image? Not to mention she can photograph 100 times better than this, sigh! I have seen red carpet shots of her that would have made for a better cover!” Miss Dalloway expressed straight away.
“I’m not sure what is more surprising, the idea of Jennifer and Sorrenti for American Bazaar, or how weak the result ended up. Even with an esteemed photographer they still fail to get it right. It looks like a botched cut-and-paste job done in haste. Let’s hope the newsstand cover will be better,” added Benn98 prior to the regular cover being unveiled (below).
Creative wasn’t much of an admirer, either, describing the cover as “awful.”
“Another low for Glenda [Bailey] at Bazaar. It’s almost embarrassing when you realize that the U.K. edition also had a white background and a beautiful girl [Daria Werbowy] on the cover. The results are disturbing,” slammed a shocked Lola701.
