The staff changes at Allure are slowly but surely starting to take effect and we’re beginning to see subtle differences with the release of each issue. Last month, we happily welcomed a fresh-faced Amy Adams as the magazine’s cover star. Continuing to eschew the usual subjects, FKA twigs stars on the magazine’s May 2016 edition. The current face of Calvin Klein Jeans poses confidently before the lens of Alasdair McLellan and uses her hands to serve up some dynamic poses.
But our forum members weren’t too impressed at first glance. “The hand movement became redundant easily,” complained an unimpressed MON the moment the cover dropped.
“Not a fan of her and the cover looks basic. Her hand wasn’t necessary though. She looks like she’s stretching her arm which makes her look uncomfortable. This is putting me to sleep, next!” quickly disapproved Aizanara.
Echoing the same opinion was justaguy, venting, “A tighter close-up of her face would have been a nice cover. And totally agree with MON, her hand gestures are very redundant and just take the focus away from the shots in their entirety.”
KateTheGreatest was quick to agree: “I’m not a fan of her hand, it’s distracting. Also it’s awfully dark for May, I’d prefer this for November. Major letdown after last month’s cover.”
Not everyone was left so unsatisfied, however. “I love the shot, irrespective of those brows!! It’s something fresh for Allure. And how weird is it to see Alasdair McLellan for Allure?? I’m not disappointed,” approved Benn98.
“Beautiful cover! Real and attractive,” commended jeffandtheworld.
“Completely unexpected. Loving this, hands and all,” noted [J.]Oliver.
