Allure is most definitely leading the pack when it comes to diverse cover subjects, having given us the likes of FKA twigs and Naomi Campbell this year. Now, in a successful attempt to retain our attention, Allure has produced yet another cover featuring a woman of color. This month, actress Zoe Saldana poses on the magazine’s July 2016 edition. Photographed by master portrait photographer Patrick Demarchelier, Zoe looks radiant, flashing a warm and friendly smile while wearing a show-stopping Dion Lee dress and a glossy red lip.
The cover seemed to leave our forum members with mixed feelings, however. “She looks awkward. I’ve seen her look much better on other covers,” pointed out a disappointed Handbag Queen the moment the cover dropped.
“Reminds me of those vintage Seventeen covers, she looks good here,” acknowledged Benn98 shortly after.
“Meh! Very Seventeen indeed – not in a good way,” fired back ThatGuyPaul in disagreement.
But things soon started to shape up once tigerrouge applauded: “Allure always had diversity in its fashion editorials, but it’s good to see that extended to the cover in recent months (Naomi, FKA twigs and now Zoe), under the new editor.”
“I love this woman so much, I’m happy to see her on a cover. Something bothers me though (probably dark colors for summer) but that smile makes up for it,” reasoned KateTheGreatest.
Forum member tixola sure was an admirer of the magazine’s efforts this month, championing, “Simply beautiful, such a stunning cover!! Very happy to see Zoe, she looks amazing!”
“She looks great,” said burbuja8910, sharing the same sentiments.
Are you a fan of the cover? We must admit, Zoe does make for a refreshing cover subject, so kudos Allure. See more and join the conversation here.
