We feel accomplished when we manage to apply our lipstick reasonably symmetrically. For Sydney-based makeup artist Jazmina Daniel, who goes by the Instagram handle Miss Jazmina D, a perfectly lined pout is but child’s play. Daniel’s skillful lipwork ranges from scenes from classic and contemporary movies to psychedelic art to visions of cityscapes and the cosmos.

Jazmina, who boats 29,655 YouTube subscribers, 870,000 Instagram followers and a significant Snapchat and Twitter base, discovered her love of makeup in the wake of an unexpected health crisis. “I found my love for makeup and lip art after I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2006. I was forced to leave school and I’d spend my days at home painting and drawing as I have always loved art,” Jazmina said in an interview with Gay Star News. “It was during that time that I started experimenting with makeup and started using my lips as my canvas.” Developing her talents allowed her to achieve some much-needed release: “I guess doing the lip art was a way to escape through all that I was going through as some of my more elaborate lip art can take up to three hours.”Jazmina inspires us as a creative, a survivor and yet another social media sensation who’s not afraid to push imagined boundaries, both in the world of makeup and the one in which we live and breathe.
