Copenhagen’s twice annual Fashion Week took place this February from the 4th to the 8th. It’s the largest Northern European fashion event and each year they showcase a growing number of new and known Danish talent. There are also three trade fairs — CPH Vision, Gallery and Copenhagen International Fashion Fai – which coincide with the runway shows, making for an additional 1,100 exhibitors representing a total of over 2,300 international brand name collections this season.
Danish fashion has come to be known for its innovation and the avant-garde aesthetic of its designers which include Ivan Grundahl and a personal favorite of mine for her bold accessories, by Malene Birger.
Copenhagen Fashion Week is organized by the Danish Fashion Institute – a newly founded network organization created by and for the Danish fashion industry.
Closely following Copenhagen, Antwerp Fashion Week took place from February 5th and ran through February 9th. When it comes to fashion Belgium is probably best known as the birth place of Martin Margiela who recently had a retrospective in celebration of the 20th year of his namesake label. The retrospective took place at Antwerp’s MoMu.
