Runway News

No detail was sparred in the overly-frilly, costume-like, Russian folklore-inspired Fall/Winter 2009 John Galliano collection.

Galliano brought the drama of his Dior Couture show to his namesake collection, when he presented his collection with falling snow on the runway and laser lighting. There was an endless array of embroidery and sequins that could not have been more carefully crafted.

The models were decked-out in dramatic makeup that included nearly white faces with frosty lips allowing the eyes to pop-out as they brought to live the various looks.

The makeup was so detailed, in fact, that at times it was hard to focus on the fashions with so much hitting the eye.

The Russian theme cropped-up in the gold coin hats and headdresses, pompon trimming, black medallion-accents, and a number of the bold shoes that included knee-high boots lined with pompons.

Only Galliano could take something like a folklore inspiration and turn it into a parade of glittering theater.
