During the Spring and Fall there’s a tendency to fall prey to enticingly packaged “wonder goops”. Weakened as we are during these times by the effects of harsh winter winds, or those sneaky little UV rays which managed to breach the defenses of SPF laden moisturizer, face powder, and sunscreen, leading to the feeling that with the application of wonder-goop X, some of the damage could be reversed.
One of this season’s goops du jour comes to us courtesy of Kiehl’s and their Ltd. Edition Açaí Damage-Protecting Toning Mist. Acai – otherwise known as the Brazilian "super berry”, one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, and (at least from my perspective) “the rather oddly tasting ingredient that manufacturers of ‘health’ foods have been determined to add to their products”. Unwilling as I am to ingest it, I am more than happy to spritz it onto my face in the hopes of (to paraphrase the blurb on the company’s website) protecting my cells from the destructive effects of oxidation, improving the look of my skin, tightening those pesky pores, and clarifying and balancing my skin’s texture.
If all else fails (and this Spring’s goop fails to live up to expectations) I’ll be able to fall back on the knowledge that 100% of the proceeds, up to $200,000, from its sale are being donated to the Rainforest Alliance. Though my skin may not be saved, some tropical forests might.
