Louis Vuitton has announced that in honor of Earth Day (today, April 22nd, 2009) that 15 percent of all sales purchased today on the Louis Vuitton U.S. site ( will be donated to The Climate Project ( Louis Vuitton, who has been partnering with The Climate Project since 2007, says that they are actively committed to promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
The association between Louis Vuitton and The Climate Project began two years ago when the fashion giant made a donation to the organization on behalf of the individuals in the Core Values Advertising Campaign. Louis Vuitton noted in a press release that they’ve continued the relationship throughout its Core Values campaigns, donating on behalf of Catherine Deneuve, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, Keith Richards, Sofia and Francis Ford Coppola, and Sean Connery.
Daniel Lalonde, President and CEO of Louis Vuitton North America, said that Louis Vuitton is “thrilled to collaborate with The Climate Project and promote environmental awareness in honor of Earth Day. Over the past few years Louis Vuitton has voluntarily made efforts to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. In addition, we are proud to be able to support The Climate Project in its inspiring quest to raise awareness of the climate crisis.”
For their part, the Executive Director of The Climate Project, Jenny Clad, remarked that they are “delighted to continue this wonderful relationship with Louis Vuitton in our joint efforts against global warming. Louis Vuitton has always been on the cutting edge of fashion and now the company has again proven it leadership to set new standards and trends for sustainable practices and programs in the luxury industry. We appreciate its support in giving consumers the opportunity to donate to TCP with their on-line purchases on Earth Day.”
The Climate Project was founded by Nobel Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore, and is an international non-profit organization with a mission of increasing public awareness of the climate crisis at a grassroots level worldwide.
