The year’s nearly over, and while we love to reminisce about all the good times over the past 12 months, it’s time to look forward. From design house appointments to the second royal baby, 2015 promises to be anything but dull. So before we officially say goodbye to 2014, here are eight things we’re looking forward to happening (or possibly happening) once we ring in the new year.
Kendall Jenner on Vogue U.S.
There’s no official confirmation that this is going to happen, but let’s be real, things are looking pret-tay good for Kendall Jenner. In 2014, Vogue, like much of the fashion world, began to take a keen interest in the young reality star – she’s already been featured in editorial spreads for the glossy. Her huge social media following combined with fashion’s newfound obsession with her makes her a prime candidate for a Vogue cover. After all, her older sister Kim scored her own cover with hubby Kanye for the magazine’s April issue – even though Anna Wintour doesn’t find the couple tasteful.” Jenner’s odds at a Vogue cover might not be so bad.
John Galliano’s First Margiela Collection
John Galliano was in relative fashion limbo this year (and last year and the previous year…), but now that he’s been officially hired at Margiela, all eyes will be on the French fashion house to see what the designer will deliver in his first collection for the brand. Galliano is poised to take Margiela in a new, exciting direction and we’re very curious to see what he does.
Finding Gucci’s New Creative Director
Gucci ended 2014 with the double whammy departure of creative director Frida Gianinni and CEO Patrizio di Marco. In February, Giannini will show her last collection for the label, and the hunt is on for a new designer to take the reins of the Italian fashion house. Riccardo Tisci, Peter Dundas and Christophe Lemaire are a few names that have been thrown around as potential successors, but ultimately, whomever Gucci chooses will be major news and a new start for the brand.
The Birth of Royal Baby No. 2
Prince George is going to have a little brother or sister this year, and he or she can’t come soon enough! Although we’re pretty sure Duchess Kate is eager to pop out the second royal tot, since pregnancy reportedly has not been a picnic for her.
Rihanna’s Puma Takeover
Rihanna is Puma’s new creative director for womenswear and global brand ambassador, a position which she will hold for a number of years. Under her direction, we’re expecting her to bring her signature badgal style to the brand. That means lots of crop tops, thigh-high slit maxis and sneakers. We’re just hoping that for this design effort, Riri dishes out a few creations that will look good on the large majority of people whose bodies don’t look as amazing as Rih’s. Sadly, some of us cannot pull off a crop top and low-slung track pants.
Kanye West Finally Dropping His Adidas Senaker Collaboration
Kanye West made one huge stink about his dealings with Nike and inked a contract with Adidas late last year. So far, we haven’t really seen what’s to come from the rapper, who initially promised a November launch of his Yeezi III shoe with the brand. Sneakerheads have waited patiently for Yeezy’s first effort with the athletic brand, though a sneak peek at the elusive kicks leaked at the beginning of November.
Cara Delevingne’s Big Screen Debut
We’re expecting 2015 to be a big year for Cara Delevingne’s acting career. She’s already conquered the modeling world and has made known her desire to make it big in Hollywood. She’s got five movies, including the Pan film and a starring role in Paper Towns due out next year, as well as a role in 2016’s forthcoming summer blockbuster Suicide Squad. Obviously, big, new, and exciting things are simmering for the model in 2015.
Men’s Fashion Week NYC
The CFDA has been shopping around the idea of holding a men’s fashion week in New York City to accommodate the significant talent we’ve got stateside in the menswear realm. For many years, American menswear designers either had to show their collections overseas or during women’s fashion week – which happens after buyers make their seasonal purchases. The CFDA hopes to plan for the event in June and raise $2 million to put the whole thing together. It should be interesting to see how the Americans do MFW, if it even happens at all.
