Get the Look: Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton has spent the better part of 2011 decked out in bright colors, prints and patterns. So, it was a bit of a surprise to see that the actress opted for a black dress when it came to the UK premiere of Huge held at the Empire cinema in London this June. What’s great about this look, though, is its simple, sophisticated elegance leaving the subtle accents on her coordinating accessories to add definition. Replicating Thandie’s on-point premiere ensemble can be tricky because of the restrained monochromatic nature and that sometimes pesky midi length, but the key is picking pieces that complement rather than compete. Here are some surefire options at a range of price points.

Thandie Newton Get the Look

1. Ballantyne Cowl Neck Dress, $435 Made of merino wool, this cowl neck dress with elbow-length sleeves is perfect for achieving this look even in the winter months. It’s a little shy of the length of Thandie’s version, although it still hits well below the knee. 2. Big Buddha Audrey, $99.95 Audrey‘s textured body and satchel shape won’t overwhelm the rest of the outfit. 3. Yves Saint Laurent Myranda Slingback, $995 Thandie’s Charlotte Olympia Carmen Wedges aren’t easy to track down, but these gold-trimmed suede platform slingbacks certainly fit the bill even with that added peep-toe detail. 4. Marc Jacobs Classic Quilted Stam Bag, $1,395 This quilted black satchel features golden accent hardware, a detachable chain-link shoulder strap and kiss-lock closure. 5. Luichiny Sur Fer Wedge, $89.99 These suede wedges take the platform to new heights with a 5” stacked heel combined with a substantial 1 1/2” platform.
