Jill Stuart Spring 2012 Runway Review

There’s something about Jill Stuart’s shows (savvy PR gals perhaps?) that always attract a mix of celebrities and reality stars. This season, instead of the slew of “Real Housewives” I was expecting (though Kelly Bensimon did come in last minute), the show brought out Scott Disick and Kris Humphries of Keeping up with the Kardashian along with Jaime King and Emma Roberts. The hoopla that ensues over these “stars” is truly astounding, especially since I don't recall ever seeing a Kardashian in a notable Stuart look (though the sisters have attended this particular show in the past) and there were no menswear looks in sight. That aside, it was hard not to find appeal in Stuart's mix of playfully girly (think drop waist silhouettes) and playfully sexy (think peek-a-boo skirts) Spring 2012 pieces.

Among the stand-out looks were monochromatic short suits, palm and flying bird prints, and glitter platforms that could give Miu Miu’s glitter pumps a serious run for their money were they out on retail shelves already. Rusty yellow, lilac, and brown played well with frothy shades of pink, peach, green, blue,  and beige as well as with the opening looks done in tangerine and bright red, for a collection that was considerably more feminine and romantic than some of Stuart more aggressive past collections.
