French beauty, chanteuse, and Johnny Depp’s counterpart, Vanessa Paradis, has been tapped to star in Miu Miu’s fall/winter 2008 campaign. Paradis follows the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Lindsay Lohan in starring in the ads that were once again photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
No surprise then that, at least the ads released for now, are immediately recognizable as being Miu Miu or perhaps more fittingly, distinctly characteristic of Alas and Piggot’s style as they bear a non-negligible resemblance to the Louis Vuitton fall/winter 2008 campaign featuring Eva Herzigova, which the duo shot as well.
Paradis’ thoughtful yet melancholic gaze, the deep colors, dark shadows, even her positioning are similar to that of the Miu Miu’s past campaigns. That said, I think the ads look fantastic and do a great job at selling a bag that is less than stunning.

For her part, Miuccia Prada says that she chose Paradis because she casts a certain powerful independence, adding that she captures the overlapping qualities of fragility and feminine strength and the ads are described as another interpretation of the Miu Miu woman.
In the ad above Paradis does indeed look like a superhero (though perhaps one that is crossed with a flight attendant’s top), as her outfit comes complete with her initials and stunningly rich makeup.
