News & Runway

I had been looking forward to the Christian Siriano show all week.  Unfortunately, like the Barbie show last season and the Custo Barcelona one the season before, Spring/Summer 2010 Siriano was total madness. A huge crowd of people were pushing and shoving, trying to make their way into the tents and with only a handful of people checking guests in the process was endless. Needless to say I never made it in. I was still trying to check in when the show started making my one-hour-plus of waiting time a complete bust.

I’ve since seen images of the collection, however, and it appears that the Project Runway winner didn’t disappoint. He showed his flair for drama with fabulously over-sized hats, sculpted shoulders, over-sized ruffles, ballooning gowns, and plenty of geometric fabric plays.

There appeared to be a bit of dowdiness to some of the day looks – particularly the two piece and the silk numbers. It’s clearly in the evening looks where Siriano shines, and nowhere was that more clear than in the designer’s strapless ball gown that boasted a red degradé ruffle high-waist bottom.

As for the shoes, this season they were once again by Payless and I can only hope that this time there isn’t as much of a discrepancy between the runway shoes and the shoes that make there way into Payless stores as there was for the designer’s fall collection, because the Spring ones are gorgeous – think curved heel, painterly prints, and ruched peep toes.
