Only Gilles Mendel could make a black dyed patch-worked silver fox vest with a completely sequined back panel look sophisticated. The stand-out look tied into the designer’s inspiration this season, which centered around “elements of nature brought to a downtown scene.”
Furs aside, eveningwear is without a doubt always a focal point at J. Mendel, and looks from the collection are near-certain to end up on red carpets during awards season.
This time around, the designer used a slew of rich colors including deep reds, Prussian blues, and volcanic greens for his gowns. The eveningwear was constructed of silk faille and stain-face mousseline, the most stunning of which was a volcanic green strapless gown with a ruffle skirt and beaded cording detail that had discreetly playful sheer paneling (Amy Adams, are you listening?).
